Moesgaard Vikingedage (Viking Days), formerly known as Moesgaard Viking Moot, is one of the most significant events in Aarhus. The festival takes place annually on the last weekend in July and is considered the biggest and oldest Viking Market in Scandinavia. Held at the Moesgård Strand, it offers a unique opportunity to experience the Viking Age firsthand, providing an intimate and authentic glimpse into the culture and lifestyle of these fascinating historical figures.
Program
The daily program offers a diverse array of activities and entertainment for visitors of all ages. Beginning at 10:30 am, NordicTellers captivate audiences with captivating tales of legends and sagas, setting the stage for a day filled with adventure. Attendees can explore an authentic marketplace, shop for goods, savor traditional Viking cuisine, and witness skilled craftsmen at work. At 11 am, the lively clown band Ramashang takes center stage, inviting guests to dance and laugh with their whimsical tunes. Throughout the morning, attendees can immerse themselves in the sounds of Viking music performed on authentic instruments by Jotunger.
The midday hours bring forth displays of Viking wrestling, fighting, and weaponry demonstrations by skilled warriors, followed by more storytelling from NordicTellers and breathtaking falconry performances. Visitors can marvel at an equestrian show featuring Icelandic horses, try their hand at various crafts, and participate in Viking demonstrations. Finally, as the sun begins to set, Ramashang bids farewell to the audience with a spirited performance at 4:30 pm, bringing a delightful end to each day of the Viking Moot festivities.
Cooking and Fire
Throughout the event, participants have the opportunity to witness and partake in various culinary activities, including baking, lighting fires, butchering, skinning, and food preparation. In the bread-baking area located on the beach, guests can receive flatbread dough and bake it themselves over bonfires. Attendees can learn the art of starting fires in true Viking fashion, using flint, fire steel, and other traditional techniques and materials. Moreover, the event features hunting, slaughter, and butchering demonstrations conducted by knowledgeable nature guides, offering a firsthand glimpse into the process of preparing meat in the Viking Age.
Children's zone
From embracing the inner archaeologist to engaging in thrilling Viking games, there's something for every adventurous spirit. Children can immerse themselves in the past by digging for artifacts in the sandbox, guided by archaeologists. Meanwhile, the Viking games and jousting area provides endless excitement. Additionally, the children's zone boasts a variety of toys and games. For those with a competitive edge, Viktoy offers the chance to test their skills in javelin throwing with the opportunity to win exciting prizes.
Tickets
Admission prices are 180 Danish kroner for adults and 50 Danish kroner for children aged 3-17, with free entry for children under three. Klub Moesgaard members enjoy a discounted rate of 130 Danish kroner. Tickets grant access to both the Vikingedage and Moesgaard Museum on the same day.
Location and Accessibility
Situated south of Aarhus, at the Moesgård Strand, the event location offers easy bike, foot, or public transport access. Gravel and sand paths wind through forest and beach areas, providing a picturesque backdrop for the festivities. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable attire suitable for participation in outdoor activities.

Parking is available at the lots near Restaurant Skovmøllen and Moesgaard Strand. Bus services from Aarhus city center provide convenient transportation to Moesgaard Museum, from where visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park and forest to reach the Viking Square.
