The Delaware State Fair takes place every year in late July in Harrington, Delaware. The ten-day event is famous for its impressive midway, livestock exhibitions, competitions, races, games, and delicious food. It draws hundreds of thousands of attendees not just from Delaware but also from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. In addition to traditional family-friendly fun, there's also The Harrington Raceway & Casino that operates on the fairgrounds.

Carnival 

With thrilling rides and endless fun awaiting, the Wade Shows Carnival beckons visitors of all ages. Carnival hours of operation from July 20 to July 29 are 5-11 pm on July 20 and 1-11 pm on subsequent days (closing times subject to change). For the ultimate carnival experience, carnival ride enthusiasts can grab the Unlimited Ride Wristband, granting unlimited access to rides for one exhilarating day. Secure your wristband in advance for $25 until July 19, or opt for the regular price of $40.

Concerts

The Delaware State Fair offers premiere live music. This year, the festivities kick off with the legendary Rick Springfield, accompanied by Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, on Thursday, July 18. Attendees can then sway to the rhythmic beats of Jon Pardi alongside Walker Montgomery on Friday, July 19. The lineup continues with Ludacris and DJ Infamous on Saturday, July 20, followed by a soulful evening with Jordan Davis and Greylan James on Sunday, July 21. On Monday, July 22, audiences can immerse themselves in the country spirit with Cooper Alan and Thomas Mac. Tuesday, July 23, brings the harmonious melodies of We The Kingdom and Consumed By Fire. Wednesday, July 24, promises an electrifying performance by Brantley Gilbert and Mike Ryan. Concerts Thursday through Wednesday are at 7:30 pm. Harness racing takes center stage on Thursday, July 25, followed by the adrenaline-fueled Demo Derby on Friday, July 26, and Turnpike Troubadours on Saturday, July 27, all at 7 pm.

Ticket prices range from $18 to $99, plus service fees, with four ticket options available. Opt for the Grandstand/Clubhouse seats for a classic concert experience, or elevate your view with the Stadium or Track tickets. For the ultimate immersive experience, grab a Pit ticket and get up close and personal with the artists. The purchase of a concert ticket does not include admission.

Competitive Exhibits

The fair features hundreds of vendors offering great food and unique shopping experiences. Attendees can immerse themselves in a whirlwind of creativity and skill at the fair's diverse competitive exhibits catering to every interest and age group. Children can unleash their imagination with the Button Craft, Duct Tape, Jazzy Jar, Lego, Shoebox Float, and Brownie Bar Cookie contests. Flower enthusiasts can showcase their talent in the Flower Arranging and Hat Decorating competitions. Culinary lovers can test their prowess in various competitions as well. Other exciting events include the Horse Shoe Pitching and Horse Pull contests, as well as the charming Pretty Animal contest.

Livestock Auction

One of its most cherished events is the Junior Livestock Auction. It serves as the pinnacle of a year-long journey marked by hard work and unwavering dedication, culminating in an invaluable agribusiness education experience. Over 350 exhibitors carefully select their finest sheep, pigs, goats, or beef animals to compete. Only the cream of the crop earns the honor of being showcased in this prestigious auction, where community leaders, businesses, and supporters gather to reward excellence.

Gate Admission Tickets

Fairgoers are encouraged to purchase gate admission tickets in advance. Online prices are set at $10 for adults (13+) and $5 for youth (6-12 years). Children aged five and under receive complimentary admission. For those planning multiple visits, the 5-Day Adult Gate Admission Pass offers exceptional value at $35 plus a $0.50 online convenience fee, allowing one adult entry on any five separate days.

History

Delaware State Fair was first held in Wilmington in 1869. In 1917, it moved to Elsmere. The newly expanded space included several stages, racetracks, and agricultural pavilions. The first fair on the current grounds was first held in 1920. Back then, it was called the Kent and Sussex County Fair.

Gate Admission Fee is $9.00 (adults of 13 years and older) and $4.00 (youth of 6–12 years). Children of 5 and under go free.
