Entertainment and events
The Iowa Renaissance Festival is an amazing family-friendly themed celebration held in Amana over three weekends per year: the spring fling in late May and early June and the fall edition in early October. The event transforms Middle Amana Community Park into "Medici Grove," which comes to life with all sorts of entertainment, including swordplay, horseback jousting, and shopping from merchants. Guests can visit interesting living history encampments, like Clan McSwade, Band of Iron Lions, Olskipan Vikings, and Warwick Living History.
Both kids and adults will be excited to meet Their Royal Majesties, King Richard and Queen Annabelle, Forking Queen, Albrecht the Minstrel, Guardians of the Black Forest, Mermaid Scarlett, and other favorite characters on the festival ground. Bring your entire family to relish the music, magic, and delicious treats at the royal food court.
Location and Tickets
Middle Amana Community Park is located 1.7 miles (2.7 km) from Amana, where visitors can stay at the hotel or grab food in the local cafes. The festival gates open from 10 am to 6 pm, rain or shine. As for the tickets, the prices differ: adults are charged $15, and kids (ages 6-13) get in for $8. Also, tickets may be purchased at the gate.
Festival History
The 32nd Annual Iowa Renaissance Festival takes its history back to 1992, when Festival International of Clear Lake, Iowa, was founded, and the first Iowa Renaissance Festival was held at the North Iowa Fairgrounds in Mason City. In 1993 Iowa Renaissance Festival became a two-weekend event.
