Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day traditionally denotes the end of the summer season and, since 1882, represents an annual workers’ holiday on the first Monday of September. And New York City knows how to celebrate this three-day event in fine fashion! While most residents prefer barbecues and beaches outside New York, there still are shedloads of can’t-miss attractions and activities within the city during that special three-day weekend.

West Indian or Labor Day Parade (September 2, 2024)

Celebrate the Caribbean culture at the West Indian American Day Carnival and Labor Day Parade. The most vibrant event in New York City starts in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on the first Monday of September. The parade starts at 10 am. The route goes along the Eastern Parkway, accompanied by the sounds of drums, whistles, reggae, and calypso music. The event, which draws about two million people, celebrates the heritage of Haiti, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Guyana, Suriname, Belize, and others.

Coney Island Labor Day Weekend (August 31, 2024)

There's no need to get jealous of your friend's photos from somewhere out of the city. Partying and relaxing at New York’s beaches is a great experience! Coney Island is called the people's playground for a reason. Visit the beaches to catch the ultimate rays of the summer sun. Enjoy its Sunlite Pool and beautiful picnic outings, and admire fireworks in the evening. The 8th Annual Freestyle Beach House at Coney Island Amphitheater starts at 6 pm on August 31, 2024.

Brazilian Day (September 1, 2024)

The annual party in Little Brazil draws crowds to celebrate the Brazilian community of New York by dancing, appreciating unique arts and crafts, and eating Brazilian food. This lively event dedicated to Brazil’s independence is held throughout 25 blocks of Little Brazil near West 46th Street. People flock not only from all over New York City but from all corners of the world to celebrate the glory of Brazilian culture.

Labor Day Weekend in NYC offers something to do for the tastes of many: music, parades, 12-hour dance parties, art exhibitions, Broadway shows, and boating. Relax on the lawns of the city's green areas: Brooklyn Bridge Park and Governor's Island. Have a memorable, fun-filled Labor Day holiday weekend in NYC with your new and old friends!
